Mimi Marzipan

Mimi Marzipan is a musician and one of the two founders of the Dana Zane Fan Club netlabel. She, currently, primarily works in sound collage, assembling pieces out of samples, field recordings and whatever else is lying around, and she is responsible for nearly everything on this website, including this very sentence.^{[citation needed]}

Biography

Mimi started making music recently and has not stopped since. The first thing she ever finished was a two-minute loop of a radio broadcast slowed down until the announcer sounded like rolling thunder. She has never released it and still describes it as one of the better things she has done.

The fan club began as a name. Mimi had the name well before she had any songs, before there was anyone to put on a roster, and arguably before she knew what a netlabel was. She asked Jill Stingray to join on the grounds that the two of them would make a good roster. Jill said sure.

Musical style

A Mimi track usually starts with something she found. A few seconds of a record, a voice off the radio.. everything is material and almost nothing is thrown away.

She has said that she does not think originality has run out so much as gone quiet, and that the interesting work now is finding the two pieces that were waiting for each other. Detractors have called this a convenient position for someone who owns eleven guitar pedals and cannot play the guitar.^[who?]
