Jill Stingray is a bartender and musician, and co-founder of the Dana Zane Fan Club netlabel. She works in hypnagogia, building slow, blurred pieces out of field recordings and code. She has been described as effortlessly cool.[by whom?]
Biography
Jill tended bar before the fan club and tends bar still. She met Mimi Marzipan across the table, on a slow night, when Mimi came in and talked for four hours about a broken tape machine. Jill listened, said almost nothing, and was somehow a co-founder by closing time.
Musical style
A Jill piece is usually composed through code or sampled and cut up, and then played through rough tapes and/or strange effects. She seems to enjoy doing this to any sound she finds interesting.
